Zombie Phone Repair in a Digital Forensics Case

Two completely destroyed Android phones. No working screen, no USB port, no cloud backup.

In this case example from a defense side digital forensics practitioner, the only thing that could prove the client's innocence was on those devices.

The solution was a logic board swap, pulling the motherboard from each damaged phone and placing it into a working body of the same model. All the data lives on the chip, so nothing changes. The result was two functioning phones and a forensic extraction that pulled video metadata showing exactly what happened during the incident.
