How could Stauffenberg conduct operation "Valkyrie"? And why did Stauffenberg seek Hitler's death?

In 1944, Claus Schenk Count of Stauffenberg parked his briefcase with a bomb in it near Adolf Hiler during a meeting. He left the building without noticing. Later, at the "Wolfsschanze," Hitler's "Führer headquarters" in East Prussia, the bomb exploded. But Stauffenberg's mission failed. Hitler survived injured, but he was alive.
