Despite being D1's flagship feature Battle.net was nearly not included. Blizzard North had no idea how to do networking so they just kinda didn't do it, only for Blizzard South to discover what was happening and sending a fixer to sit in a hotel room and code 24/7 to knock out an innovative system that only needed 1 computer to work. Yeah-- b.net was on ONE computer. Also it was one of the first if not THE first free multiplayer online system aside from Blizzard's earlier Warcraft.
