How to start a Vintage Cosmetic Collection
1.Look for iconic brands that sum up the spirit of an age. Pieces that embody a trend are likely to be the most sought after in future.
2. Invest in the original magazine adverts for your item (available on eBay) or print them from the internet.
3.Remember, it's not all about money — collect things you genuinely love.
4. Look for celebrity collaborations. Modern-day classics will be worth something one day, such as an item from Rihanna's first Fenty Beauty collection.
5.Look for revolutionary product design, such as the first' twist up' lipsticks.
6.Find items which look 'of their era', such as Seventies Avon products.
7. I mainly use sites such as eBay and Estate. I also shop at Estate Sales. You can't find vintage makeup at thrift shops because of liabilities.
8.Buy items in excellent condition, such a vintage deadstock which means the products are new and still in the original packaging.
9. Don't use the old makeup as it lowers its value and can be very toxic. A lot of old makeup has lead in it as well as other harmful ingredients.
10. Itemise your objects, record information such as the first owner and country of origin, keep them in a cool, dark place and wear gloves when handling them.
