Living in luxury mansions orbiting Earth sounds like the ultimate dream, but could we actually build space hotels anytime soon? Not really! The science says it’s still fiction.

First, cost is the biggest hurdle. Sending just one kilogram into space costs thousands of dollars. The International Space Station (ISS) cost $150 billion to build and requires constant supply missions. A luxury space hotel would cost even more—and only the ultra-rich could afford a stay.

Then there’s radiation. Earth’s atmosphere shields us from deadly cosmic rays. In space, astronauts face higher cancer risks from radiation exposure. Without heavy shielding, long-term space living is dangerous.

Another problem? Zero gravity. Living in orbit causes bone loss, muscle weakening, and vision problems. Astronauts on the ISS exercise 2 hours a day just to prevent severe health issues. A space mansion might be luxurious—but it wouldn’t be comfortable.

While companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin are working on space tourism, true orbiting mansions and hotels are still decades away. Until we solve cost, radiation, and gravity issues, space luxury remains science fiction.
