RED Flag Surf Conditions in Laguna Beach: Lifeguards Rescue 100+ people in ONE DAY

40-50ft swells that formed from a massive storm in the South Pacific traveled thousands of miles before hitting southern California. By the time it reached our coast wave heights exceeded 25 feet at certain beach breaks. Conditions were very dangerous for even the most experienced surfers and lifeguards. Rip currents inundated most beaches and many were rescued by the best lifeguards. Some lifeguards didn't feel comfortable in these types of conditions. The water level of the Aliso Creek was the highest I had ever seen. The powerful waves on the high tide in the early hours of the morning washed in to the creek and filled it to its maximum levels, flooding the pedestrian tunnel, the parking lot, and encroaching on the kids' park, carrying away items like trash cans and cones. When the creek breaches, the water flowing back out in to the ocean created a massive rip current. after falling in, I narrowly escaped getting swept out to Sea.
