Marilyn Newton - Reno Photographer once nominated for Pulitzer

Faces of Nikon

Would you like to learn about a Pulitzer Prize nominated photographer from the Reno area?

Look no further.

Action Camera and Nikon teamed up to interview some of our best Nikon customers to highlight their contribution to photography.

Meet Marilyn Newton. You may not know her name but you may know her work.

Marilyn began her career in newspapers as one of the very first paper girls in all of the United States. This led to her becoming a photojournalist for the Reno Evening Gazette where she served for the next 52 years. Her father was a policeman in Carson and introduced her to the Reno/Sparks police chief and they adopted her as one of their own.

On April 15, 1977, Marilyn was listening to her police scanner when the alert came across that there was a shooting. She grabbed her camera and hopped in her car to get on-scene. The result was a Pulitzer nominated photograph of three officers with guns drawn on a suspect.

I can only imagine how many awesome and inspirational stories Marilyn must have about her photography. She shares a few of them in this video.

Take a look and listen. Let us know what you think.
