How to Make an End Grain Cutting Board

I made this end grain cutting board from hard maple and sipo (sipo is an African wood also known as utile).

An end grain cutting board is the preference of chefs because of its durability and because it is less hard on the knife blades. It is also somewhat "self-healing" because the knife marks will close up after use.

The end grain is very absorbant, so it really soaks up the cutting board oil. It should be oiled often to help make it last longer.
