‘We’re Scared’: US Federal Agents Raid Puerto Rico Building Targeting Undocumented Migrants | Trump

U.S. federal agents conducted a search for undocumented migrants in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Sunday (January 26).

The operation, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, targeted a building in the Santurce barrio, where at least 10 people were detained, according to witnesses.

Ramon Munoz, the building's owner, told Reuters that agents entered with excessive force, breaking doors and causing significant damage. “The president's orders have to be obeyed, but not with violence,” he said.

Separately, Jose Rodriguez, president of the Dominican Committee for Human Rights in Puerto Rico, criticized the actions and pointed out a contradiction in assurances made by Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon. “It seems that she was badly advised, because it is happening,” he said.

Rodriguez also urged Dominicans in Puerto Rico to avoid disclosing their origin to authorities and to invoke the Fifth Amendment, which protects individuals from self-incrimination and guarantees due process.

On his first day in office U.S. President Donald Trump declared illegal immigration a national emergency, directing the U.S. military to assist with border security. He also implemented a broad asylum ban and introduced measures to restrict citizenship for children born on American soil.
