This video explains the anatomy and osteology of the talus.
1) Consists of a body, neck, and head
2) Superior surface of body -- trochlea
3) Inferior surface of body -- forms part of the subtalar joint
4) Medial surface of body -- comma shaped (pear shaped)
5) Lateral surface of body -- triangular shaped. Contains the lateral process of talus
6) Posterior surface of body -- can have an os trigonum or steida's process
7) Neck -- directed anteromedial. Fractures often lead to avascular necrosis
8) Head -- forms part of the subtalar joint. Articulates with spring lig. angle of talar torsion (approximately 40 degrees)
