Lebanon: Dramatic footage shows moment Beirut blasts hit during wedding photoshoot

A couple was posing for their wedding photoshoot outside a restaurant on Tuesday, right when the twin blasts hit Beirut’s port area.

In the footage taken by Palestinian photographer Ibrahim Hasan Kitmitto, the bride and groom are peacefully posing together, before they are hit by the blasts waves and the restaurants’ windows behind them shatter. The couple were unharmed by the explosion.

The street is then seen covered in debris.

The blasts, which took the lives of at least 157 people and injured more than 5,000, according to officials, are thought to have been caused by the still unexplained ignition of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a highly explosive chemical material which was reportedly stored without precautionary measures at the port, according to Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab.

The Lebanese government has declared a two-week state of emergency.
