Fixing Horses Who Pull Back

Using the Functional Tie Ring to get horses who pull back better at standing tied. This video is meant to supplement the article on www.functionalhorsemanship.com
Using the tie ring, the lead rope feeds through the ring allowing the horse to pull back but provides an immediate release when there is a pause in the pull back. I always do this to my horses before I ever hard tie as it reduces the chances of them getting into trouble when hard tied. They learn they don't have to pull back or they can stop and the pressure goes away. After hooking the lead through the Functional Tie Ring, I use the least amount of pressure, such as with a flag, to get them to pull back in the friction provided controlled manner. I take the stimulus away, give them a minute to think it over as I rub on them, re-tighten the lead, and begin again. If you are consistent with your approach, the horse will pull back less and less, eventually not pulling back. Before you try this on a horse who pulls back, read the article, check to see if the lead you are using feeds through the tie ring easily enough, and best case if you get a horse competent person to help you the first time as there is potential to get you or your horse hurt if you don't do about this in a particularly careful way.
