Dude was a force. Massively underrated as a player. "Strangeways" contains some of his best work, imo, on ample display on "Girlfriend in a Coma."

That synthy-sounding intro? Stephen Street told me he remembers it being a Fairlight, and not bass at all! But in this playthrough, I copped it on bass, because why not.

Listen to the precision of Rourke's right hand, man. I tried as hard as I could to cleave to it but I'm not sure I succeeded. I also had a fleeting fantasy of learning every Smiths song on bass and filming them all. ... 😰
