ABUS Bike Locks Deep Dive, Examples, Ebike Specific

While visiting ElectriCity Ebikes in Washington, DC, I was able to get a close look at a variety of ABUS bike locks. The founder, Charlie, showed off his custom outfitted Specialized Turbo Como which had a cafe lock to secure the rear wheel, a chain lock from that point to secure the front wheel, and a heavy duty folding lock mounted below the top tube. The best part about these locks is that they share the same key. ABUS does have a security hardware system that replaces the seat clamp bolts and wheel axle bolts that use gravity to activate. If the bike is on its side, the bolt can be unscrewed... but not if the bike is upright! I was really impressed with Charlie's explanation of chains, being difficult to position if someone wants to cut through, and how the fabric casing can be tough for grinders to get through because they tend to get bound up... the power tool might also skate around and struggle to find a groove to cut through consistently. ABUS has this cool little bag that works as a chain case, so you can attach it to your bike frame like a folding lock or u-lock.
