GMT900 Rear Differential Service: Winning the War Against Rusty Bolts (Part 1)

This is Part 1 of the Rear Differential Service on the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. We aren't just changing fluid; we’re performing Mechanical Remediation on a chassis that has seen its fair share of Northeast oxidation.

The bolts were incredibly stubborn and rusty, requiring a multi-stage approach to maintain Fastener Integrity. I used a manual wire brush and a drill-mounted wire wheel to clear the threads before the real battle began. The secret "sauce" to getting these loose was banging a socket onto the nut to ensure the Impact Wrench had a solid bite.

As you can see, the Differential Fluid was in dire need of a replacement interval. This is critical for preventing Gearset Friction and Axle Housing Failure.
