The bomb did not explode! Visiting the Rotunda, the miracle church of Mosta.

Today we have visited the beautiful church Rotunda of Mosta. This church is also called "The Miracle Church", because of what happened during World War II. In 1942, on a raid of the German bombers, the Rotunda took a direct hit. The bomb penetrated the ceiling, it hit the wall of the church, then bounced to the floor where it left a visible mark. We were lucky today to meet a very nice local gentleman who graciously showed us the point of entry of the bomb, as well as the spot on the wall where it hit and the place where it left the mark.

The Rotunda is inspired by the Parthenon (and it's kind of obvious that it does), but that does not take away from its beauty. The Rotunda is truly beautiful.

After touring the church, we took a quick tour of World War II bomb shelters. It was a sobering reminder of what hatred can bring into the world.
