James Dunn heads an ensemble cast in this U.S. detective film from 20th Century Fox, adapted from John W. Vandercook's 1933 novel, "Murder in Trinidad," which is available for purchase through amazon:

Plot (Google):
A special agent risks his life investigating the disappearance of eight men in an island swamp.
Review (Brooklyn Eagle, 1945):
"...20th Century-Fox... is making no mistake in giving Dunn a star comeback.... Robert Webb's direction keeps suspense uppermost... a walloping good murder story." – Jane Corby

As referenced in the review above, James Dunn was once a leading man at Fox Film, but he broke with the studio in 1935. After a few lean years punctuated by struggles with alcohol, he won a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" (1945), which led directly to his return to Fox with "Caribbean Mystery."
By 1945, J. W. Vandercook's original novel "Murder in Trinidad" had already formed the basis of two earlier 20th Century Fox films. The first adaptation was released under the novel's title in 1934, then the story was transformed into a Mr. Moto adventure for "Mr. Moto in Danger Island" (1939 -- https://youtu.be/ghSWUgWDMNc). Only the first film retained the book's detective character, Cockney sleuth Bertram Lynch, who would go on to feature in three sequel novels through 1959.
Despite the similar titles, Agatha Christie's 1964 novel "A Caribbean Mystery" (featuring Miss Marple) has no connection with this film.
