USA vs Australia (0:1) Goodwill tour match in 1992

The Socceroos travelled to Central and South America on a short goodwill tour. Three international friendlies were organised to give the squad some travelling and match practise away from home ahead of World Cup qualifiers later in the year. The first of these games was against the USA in Florida. The game was notable in that a passing thunderstorm caused a lengthy delay during the game, almost forcing the game to be abandoned due to the fear of having players struck by lightning. The game was also notable for another reason as it made Australia unofficial World Champions. An honour they lost to Argentina in the very next match they played
