What Adderall Actually Felt Like at 52

#ADHDWomen #LateADHDDiagnosis #ADHDMedication #WomenAndADHD #NeurodivergentWomen

You did the work. The exercise, the meditation, the systems, the spiritual practice — you showed up for all of it. And somewhere along the way, you still ended up exhausted, behind, and quietly wondering why it keeps getting harder instead of easier.

For women with ADHD who came to their diagnosis late, especially in their forties and fifties, the medication question isn't simple. It sits at the intersection of identity, shame, perimenopause, executive function, nervous system dysregulation, and years of learning to cope in ways that cost more than they should have. Late-diagnosed ADHD in women looks different. The burnout lands differently. The resistance to medication runs deeper.

I was firmly in the "I don't need it" camp. Until I wasn't. And what I found on the other side of that decision — the messy, honest, unglamorous middle of it — is something I haven't heard many people talk about.
