On this special episode of His and His, Paul interviews Matthew about the decade he and his family spent trapped in a religious cult. From boyhood until his early twenties, Matthew belonged to an elite group called the Advanced Training Institute. Founded by a charismatic and often eccentric leader named Bill Gothard, ATI eventually accumulated thousands of devoted followers around the world. Matthew describes how he and his family fell into the cult life, the many abuses of power he witnessed, and the moment he felt that his life was over.
