Uruguay - Road Trip

Join us as we explore the coast of Uruguay!

We rented a car and took to the road for 6 days full of sun and sand!

Piriapolos: This was a quick stop for us to have a bite to eat and to look over the crystal clear water. You could easily stay here for a few days: enjoy a ride on the gondola, dine at the restaurants and swim at the pristine beaches.

La Paloma: We stayed one night in this quaint town. We explored the beautiful lighthouse and enjoyed our time sitting on the awesome rock formations to watch the waves and sunset. That evening there also happened to be a circus act which was actually pretty entertaining. This town has lots of restaurants and little stores but did not seem very busy which was a nice break from the city.

Cabo Polonia: Accessible only by large trucks that bounce you over the sand dunes to this isolated off grid village. Home to about 100 residents and a large colony of sea lions. Take a walk down the main beach and you have the place all to yourself! A great way to spend the afternoon or even a full day.

Punta del Diablo: Located just 50km to the Brazilian border and hands down, our favourite place in Uruguay! We stayed here for two nights. Sort of a bigger version of Cabo Polonia, but the town has the comforts (ie. electricity, grocery stores) of a larger town. There are many restaurants to choose from, and many cute homes scattered throughout. More incredible beaches nestled among giant sand dunes and interesting rock formations. The dirt roads and large trees give the feeling that you are living the cottage life.

Punta Del Este: Just before we arrived at this popular city, we stopped for lunch in La Barra, which has lots of large homes and resort style hotels. Punta del Este also has luxuriously large homes as well as many, many condos. The beaches are beautiful but quite packed compared to the other ones we visited. This city is very clean and very walkable with nice sidewalks. We also stayed here two nights.

These coastal towns are a must see when visiting Uruguay!
