Stretch Armstrong Kenner 1977

The most popular toy of 1977 was a plastic bag filled with corn syrup. Kenner called him Stretch Armstrong. He cost eleven bucks. You could stretch him from fifteen inches to five feet, and he beat out the Six Million Man and the Bionic Woman to become the number one requested toy in America.

Kenner sold fifty million dollars worth of him.

Then Mego Toys, Kenner's biggest rival, saw the gold rush and started making Stretch Hulk, Stretch Batman, Stretch Spider-Man. Kenner had the patent. Every Mego stretchy superhero got pulled off the shelves and destroyed. The ones that survived are now some of the rarest toys on the planet.
