Touring The 9-Year-Old Food Forest I Planted in North Florida
After three years, I got a chance to visit and film at my old North Florida food forest. Despite some rough winters, adverse conditions, lack of tending and the overgrowth of nitrogen-fixers, the system remains productive and resilient.

This 9-year-old food forest should be producing fruit, nuts, roots and berries for years to come. Forest gardening allows you to walk away for years and come back to productive trees, unlike annual gardening. Though there is a lot I wish I could do to improve this system's productivity and soil, it's hanging on without my help. It's a tough climate for a food forest, north of Ocala there are hard freezes now and again, so I planted varieties that could take the ups and downs of hard and mild winters. So far, so good!
