When the army arrived to tear down the Berlin Wall in Hötensleben in 1989, the mayor denied them access. 20 years later, the last remnant of the iron curtain still stands in this East German village.

The mayor of Hötensleben claims the wall is an important reminder of the tragic results of dictatorship. "“We Hötenslebeners must put up with this testament in the interests of the public."” Yet is this monument really in the interests of the locals, who must live with its haunting presence every day? “Only a few know what costs this border monument really has…”.
