Why 6 Hours of Sleep Isn’t Enough

Most people think they're fine after six hours of sleep. The research disagrees — hard.

The optimal target is 7.5 to 8.5 hours per night. Not lying in bed — actually sleeping. That's the window where your body completes enough sleep cycles to do its repair work.

Consistently less than that and you're in a state of chronic under-recovery.

Here's the kicker: most people can't even tell when they're impaired from sleep deprivation. You just adapt to feeling bad.
