28. We Are The Champions (Queen-Rock In Rio: 1/19/1985)
Happy New Year everybody!!! I hope everybody had a nice 2012--and made some great New Year's resolutions! 2013 is going to be a GREAT year for Queen fans--trust me. To start off 2013, I'm going to upload the best available version of Queen's second Rock In Rio show! The version of the concert is nearly complete (has some small cuts throughout), and the overall quality ranges from decent to great (there's six sources used).
The second Rio concert has some marked differences compared with the first concert: While the atmosphere is the same (awesome crowd, great moods onstage, etc); the music performances are stronger on this night (there's fewer mistakes, better improv sections on songs, and tighter vocal harmonies)! There is also another big difference--Freddie's voice isn't in great shape (on the first night--he sounds pretty strong), and he REALLY has problems on a number of songs (almost as bad as the worst 1984 versions of songs). Despite that, this concert still has its great moments--and shouldn't be skipped! Now, time to talk about the songs...
"Tear It Up" has Freddie struggling to maintain his higher range, "Tie Your Mother Down" doesn't sound great (Freddie makes bad note choices and cracks throughout), "Under Pressure" has Freddie trying to sing it well--but his vocal shape prevents him from being able to do so, "Somebody To Love" has a nice introduction--but the main song has erratic phrasing throughout, "Killer Queen" sounds pretty weak (Freddie makes bad note choices and speak-sings randomly), "Seven Seas Of Rhye" sounds alright, "Keep Yourself Alive" isn't as bad as some 1984 versions--but still isn't a version I'd recommend to people, "Liar" has Freddie breaking and cracking throughout the performance, "It's A Hard Life" is one of the worst versions ever (Freddie's falsetto gives out during the intro, he forgets lyrics, and messes up piano chords), "Dragon Attack" sounds respectable (the guitar solo is fantastic), "Now I'm Here" has better performances, "Is This The World We Created" has Freddie goofing up the lyrics and hitting some flat notes, and "Love Of My Life" is epic (the crowd atmosphere turns this performance into a battle of emotions)!
"Another One Bites The Dust" sounds terrible, "Hammer To Fall" shows off Freddie's weakened voice (like trying to hit A4s and giving out), "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is a good performance, "Bohemian Rhapsody" sounds bland with Freddie making bad note choices (although the ending is excellent), "Radio Ga Ga" sounds awful, "I Want To Break Free" has Freddie struggling to sing the song (it's one of the worst versions), "Jailhouse Rock" is pretty good (Freddie's pretty gutsy on this version), "We Will Rock You" sounds alright, and "We Are The Champions" sounds pretty decent!
ENJOY!!!
Note: The "Impromptu" performance (also known as "Rock In Rio Blues") is fantastic--one of the highlights of the show!
Note 2: Brian's guitar solo section contains parts of "Let Me Out" (from the Star Fleet Project album).
Note 3: There's an awesome "The March Of The Black Queen" jam between "Somebody To Love" and "Killer Queen!"
