Ukraine civilians in military training amid Russian threat

(5 Feb 2022) Civilian self defence training continued on the outskirts of Kyiv on Saturday, amid fears of a Russian invasion.
Volunteers have joined former military personnel to learn how to handle weapons and administer first aid.
Kyiv residents from diverse age groups came to the outskirts of the city to be trained in the basic knowledge of how to defend themselves and their loved ones.
Yana, a chemist from Kyiv, believes it's everyone's duty to help the country in the case of Russian aggression.
"In any case we have to be ready for Russian attack, we cannot stay aside, we have to defend our borders and the future of our nation," she said.
Another volunteer, Ilya Goncharov, believes it's important to have at least basic military training.
"I am here to learn how to defend myself, defend my relatives and also understand how to act in the situation. I have not found another place where I could learn all this. I am happy that I came here to learn the basics of self-defense and first aid," Ilya said.
