Public event: The transatlantic relationship in the context of global realignments | 24 March 2026

This week, the Atlantic Council Romania, in partnership with the Conflict Prevention & Early Warning Center and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Romania, convened a timely and forward-looking discussion on the future of the transatlantic relationship amid accelerating global realignments.

Moderated by Professor Iulian Chifu, the event featured former Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă as special guest. The debate brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to explore how shifting power dynamics, ongoing conflicts, and economic and technological competition are redefining the transatlantic agenda.

Discussions focused on the evolving strategic priorities of the United States and Europe, the role of NATO in ensuring collective defense and deterrence, and the need for greater coordination in addressing shared challenges—from security risks on the Eastern Flank to resilience in the face of hybrid threats.

Participants also reflected on the importance of reinforcing political cohesion and strategic trust across the Atlantic, while adapting to a more multipolar and contested international environment. Particular attention was given to the role of regional actors, including Romania, in strengthening the transatlantic link and contributing to long-term stability and security.
