If Space Flips State, Matter May Not Survive

Physics allows a disturbing possibility: the vacuum of space may be stable only in appearance. If that state can fail, the change would not remain local; it would propagate through spacetime and redefine the physical conditions that make matter, stars, and chemistry possible.
