AOC vs DAC Copper Cable: Which Is Better? Selection Comparison for 800G Compute Data Centers.

This is one of the most frequently compared topics for data center renovation and compute infrastructure construction. For low-speed applications within a short reach of 3 meters, DAC copper cables deliver better cost performance and simpler deployment. However, DAC cables suffer severe bandwidth-distance limitations under 400G/800G high-speed transmission, with a maximum reach of only 15 meters, and they are highly susceptible to high-frequency electromagnetic interference.
Active Optical Cables (AOCs) support transmission distances up to 50 meters. Featuring thin, flexible cable bodies, zero EMI interference, lower power consumption and consistent latency performance, AOCs fit perfectly with liquid-cooled high-density racks. They are currently the optimal replacement solution for DAC cables in AI compute clusters.
