A very Roger Miller Birthday Show - Matthew Dethrow - Allways Lounge - New Orleans JazzFest 2023

May 4th, 2023 at the Allways Lounge & Cabaret in New Orleans. My very first time venturing out from behind my Upright Bass, as well as my first time singing and leading a band. But not the last, as this was too much fun!
I realize my singing has a loooooong way to go, but you gotta start somewhere.
I started the day playing a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on the Economy Hall Stage with Slick Skillet Serenaders(our first #JazzFest)! It was a pretty amazing way to start a birthday.
Being diagnosed with Keinbock's Disease has altered my plans, and has the potential to wreak havoc on my bass playing career. I'll be posting videos on this development, its a rare bone disease that luckily has not kept me from playing yet.
So, in moving forward, I'm looking into playing tuba or sousaphone post surgery. I played Trumpet in school, so hopefully it'll be a smooth transition.

Doing this show was a great feeling, and to entertain a crowd without my bass ... it was righteous.

You never know where life will lead you, best not to fight it. I never dreamed I would be where I'm at, doing what I'm doing. Thankful every day for the thousands of shows Ive gotten to play.
