DESIGNING A SUSTAINABLE, ETHICAL ENGAGEMENT RING WITH ECKSAND | Morganite & Rose Gold | THE PURIST

Attention future earth-conscious brides-to-be! 💁‍♀️💍

When Dusan first began talking about marriage, one of the things we agreed on was to be as responsible as possible throughout the process. And that definitely included the engagement ring.

Being the wonderful, thoughtful, (and generous!) person that he is, he asked me to find the EXACT engagement ring I wanted.

Well, it turns out that it didn't exist. Yet. But I knew the criteria for my dream engagement ring:
1. The jeweler MUST enforce ethical gem sourcing and be able to back it up. The expoitation of people around the world for the diamond and gem trade is unacceptable, and completely avoidable.
2. I was interested in sustainable jewelry options and even considered re-using a small diamond from a family heirloom. (See point 3 though.)
3. Diamond was not my first choice. I was open to ethical diamonds in grey or organic, imperfect diamonds, but was not sold on them.
4. Morganite, emerald, and other "non-traditional" stones appealed to me deeply. Morganite was my top choice. Morganite ranges from peach to pink, to fuchsia. Each of the shades are stunning!
5. I was gravitating towards softer pastel colours for the main stone, like pale blue, peach and pink.
6. I wanted a plain band but was undecided on the colour. Rose gold was an option.

I came across Ecksand from Montreal and was lucky enough to be able to work with founder Erica on creating my engagement ring. And knowing that there may be others out there looking for the perfect conscious jewelry brand for their special day, I knew I wanted to share this experience. They work exclusively with recycled gold and all their stones are sourced ethically.

Working with Ecksand was an absolute DREAM. In the beginning, I was super intimidated by the process. I wasn't sure if the design I pictured could even be made, as I specifically wanted an emerald cut Morganite stone. I was also working against a very swollen left hand that I was very self-conscious of. (I have Lymphedema.) However, Erica and Ecksand managed to meet my every need! I'm so thankful for the care and passion they showed throughout the process.
