Brussels sprouts festive harvest and cook in two ways
Brussels sprouts have an undeserved reputation for being bitter, and these are not! If you have not before, tried them roasted, I urge you to have a go and 15 minutes at 200°C/about 400°F is good.
When you grow them in healthy soil and harvest them fresh after a frost, there's already a good deal of sweetness and flavour there. Then we show you two ways to prepare them, roasting and sauteing. Both of them bring out the sweetness further.
Enhance the flavours even more by adding chestnuts, onion, apple, and some bacon. These dishes are substantial, and could even serve as a main course. Brussels sprouts are incredibly dense, and the amount I prepared here would serve 5 to 6 people, for each of these dishes.
These are Brigitte F1, sown 4th May and transplanted 10th June between carrots. Climate is zone 8, with the regular rainfall they love.
