Basilosaurus: Prehistoric Shark-Eating Whale with "T. rex" Legs

Basilosaurus was no ordinary whale, this massive marine predator terrorized prehistoric seas, dined on sharks, and had tiny, powerful hind limbs reminiscent of T. rex arms!

Basilosaurus, “King Lizard,” is actually a… whale!!! Yep! When found twas thought to be a 100’ long lizard, hence the name. However, it didn’t take too long before mammal experts saw the teeth and said, “whale!” The crazy thing is this whale has tiny hind limbs!

The apex predator of its day, it ruled the Tethys Sea 40 million years ago. At 70’ long and 14+ tons, nothing alive could stand up to it!

It ate sharks and dolphin-like mammals called Durodon. We know this because we have found them with both kinds of creatures in their bellies. Massive biting power, tremendous straight-line speed, this whale feared nothing.
