George Benson - We Remember Wes (HD)
George Benson - We Remember Wes 1978)
Recorded on the double-disc Weekend in L.A., album, "We Remember Wes, a disco-flavored, upbeat jazz tune, was penned by the legendary virtuoso Stevie Wonder. Most accounts and research inquiries believe the tune was a written tribute to jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery (who passed away in 1968). In all of my research, I couldn't find not one iota of data to help a brother out. So I will carefully assume that Stevie Wonder and George Benson paid tribute to the late great guitarist - especially since Benson does a heck of a great job on the funky track. His performance is worth being labeled a tribute to Wes. Weekend in L.A, containing hits "On Broadway" and "The Greatest Love of All" and the CTI-era instrumental "Ode to a Kudu," soared to #1 R&B and jazz and #5 pop in 1978.
Produced by Tommy Lipuma. Recorded and mixed by Al Schmitt.
BACK TO BLACK is a video series celebrating the spirit and legacy of vinyl with audio of maxi-singles, essential records, exclusive mixes and rare grooves. Presented by HiFiMagazine.
