Restoring a Rudolf Bacher Hand Wrench | Incredible Before & After!

This week, I restored a Rudolf Bacher hand wrench—an extremely rusty, 100-year-old piece of history that was likely paired with old farming equipment. The transformation on this antique tool restoration project is dramatic.

I began by washing the tool and creating sodium carbonate for an electrolysis rust removal bath, which took two full days. After straightening the wrench with heat and a vice, I cleaned off the magnetite coating with a wire brush, smoothed it out with a flap disc, and hand-sanded and polished the surfaces.

Next came painting. I masked off the polished edges and gave the body two coats of red paint, then hand-painted the Rudolf Bacher lettering in silver. The final reveal shows just how effective this Rudolf Bacher hand wrench restoration was.
