Bridges, they are complex pieces of engineering that most of us use everyday to drive on even if we dont realize it. There are some that are small, big, tolls free, gotta pay annoying tolls, runs over water, under water, over land, and some even over clouds. They are built to make their user’s drive shorter while connecting 2 places. Here in the united states we got world famous bridges like the golden gate bridge in california, brooklyn bridge in NY the delaware memorial bridge in of course delaware and many more. This bridges are complex and take a lot of time to build like the golden gate bridge took 1604 days to be built and the brooklyn bridge actually took 14 years from start to finish.

how did China build a bridge in 43 hours?

First i gotta explain the utility of bridges, so let's quantify it.. The golden gate bridge hosts on average around 112,000 cars a day, it is 1.7 miles long that translates to 190,000 miles driven a day just on the bridge. That is almost 70 million miles driven a year. That is the same as driving around the world 2,790 times. You see, we all take bridges for granted because they have always been there but if there were not things would be very different. Imagine the golden gate bridge was never built and you live in Sausalito but you work in a warming hut bookstore and cafe on the other side of san francisco. Your daily commute would be a 42.5 mile drive and it will take you 93 minutes to get to work. that is assuming there is no traffic and you know san francisco traffic sucks. Now because the bridge was built its only a
6 mile drive and takes you 8 minutes to get to work. That is a huge difference. So imagine all the 112000 daily drivers were doing the same commute( which we know they dont because most them come from farther away, the bridge saves on average 1,667,400,000 miles driven a year or 66961 drives around the world. There is a lot of metrics that we can talk about this bridge but u didnt click on this video for that. So here we go.

The country of china has become very famous in the last 4 decades in the construction of engineering marvels throughout its country. Projects like The Three Gorges Dam the world's biggest hydroelectric dam and also It is the biggest concrete structure in the world. The Shanghai Tower — World's Second Tallest Building. The Pearl River Delta — The World's Largest and Fastest Growing Conurbation and the The Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge is the longest and highest of its kind in the world. Yes, a glass bridge. But not only they are famous for building some of the largest structures in the world but also the speed that they get it accomplished. And they are really fast. The hoover Dam in nevada is one the largest dam in the US, took about 5 years to build in comparison with the three gorges dam in china that took 9 years to build. Yes 5 years are less than 9 but hear me out. The hoover dam is 726 feet tall, 1244 long and its spillway capacity is 400000 cubic ft per second of water. the three gorges dam is 594 feet tall, 7661 feet long(so about 6 times longer than Hoover dam) , and a spillway capacity 4,100,000 cubic feet per second. That is almost ten times more spillway capacity than the hoover dam. If the three gorges dam at its size was built in the US rather than china it would have taken 22 years to build. So you can see china has size and construction speed on their side.

The Sanyuan bridge is a major overpass on the northeastern stretch of Beijing's 3rd Ring Road. It was opened in 1984. The overpass links three major passageways in Beijing and the complex structure made it a speciality on its own in its first days. The Airport Expressway, Jingshun Road (China National Highway 101) and the 3rd Ring Road were interlinked. It is estimated that more than 35000 vehicles use this bridge every single day. In early 2015, structural engineers that work for the city of beijing noticed that the 31 year old bridge supports started to give in and structurally was becoming unsafe to the point that city officials ordered it to be replaced. It was estimated that it would take 2 months for the bridge to be replaced. Two months? And would create almost armageddon in traffic in beijing. Now remember beijing is the capital of china, and the chinese are all about productivity. I wish the united states was the same, i have the same pot hole in front of my house for the last 8 years, and i don't think it will get fixed anytime soon but Going back to the subject. City officials did not like that answer so the construction company went back to the drawing board and came back with a different answer and that answer was an integrated replacement method.
