THREE KEY BILLS PASSED IN LOK SABHA | 131ST CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT, UT LAWS & DELIMITATION BILL🇮🇳

The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on April 16, 2026, following an intense debate between the Treasury benches and the Opposition over proposed changes to the women’s reservation framework. The motion was carried after a division of votes, with 251 members voting in favour and 185 against.

The Bill seeks to amend the existing women’s reservation law to ensure its operationalisation by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Alongside it, two ordinary Bills were also introduced one to establish a delimitation mechanism and another to extend the amended provisions to the Union Territories of Delhi, Puducherry, and Jammu & Kashmir.

However, Opposition members criticised the move, alleging that the government is prioritising delimitation exercises rather than focusing on the effective implementation of women’s reservation.
