CONCLUSION
Ok, time to wrap up this review and draw some conclusions about the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 art, so here goes;
BUILD QUALITY: Really, solid and typical of the Sigma Global vision series of lenses, it comes complete with a nice case and a lens hood, it’s really beautiful and built extremely well, the only thing its really lacking is weather sealing, so for build we gave it a 9.5/10
AF SPEED AND ACCURACY: It’s really fast, and mostly accurate, when compared to Sigma’s other lenses in the Global Vision series, this one seems to perform much more accurately than the other lenses in the series, as mentioned previously, I’ve historically had better luck with Sigma’s zooms more so than their primes with regard to focus, not sure why. So for AF Speed and accuracy, we gave the Sigma a 9/10
OPTICAL QUALITY/QUALITY OF RESULTS: Really sharp, really contrasty, with - in my opinion excellent bokeh rendering, for you video shooters out there, the normal perspective that 50mm brings is a great addition to your arsenal of lenses, it’s optically excellent and a joy to use, for Optical Quality and the quality of the results, we gave it a 9.5/10 for both
VALUE: When compared to the high end, professional offerings from both Canon and Nikon, then Sigma represents an outstanding value, especially when you consider that most of the technical reviews out there give the Sigma higher marks than the Canon 50mm f/1.2 L. So if you need a fast 50 and you’re a paid professional the 50mm f/1.4 Art is sort of a no brainer. If only it were weather sealed, and at this price point, it’s at a level where it probably should be, for value we gave it a 9.5/10
OVERALL: 47/50 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
THE FINAL WORD: If you’re a paid professional and need a 50mm lens - and most pros do - then you’ll now have to consider the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens as a serious contender, with it’s winning combination of excellent optics, great build, fast and mostly accurate focus, and value price, then Sigma has yet again another winner on it’s hands.
