SYRIA: 6 years on | Booby-Trapped Teddy Bears

Throughout Northern Syria MSF has witnessed the impact of mines, booby traps and explosive remnants of war on the civilian population through its medical activities.

Not only the extensive use of explosive weapons during the hostilities, including bombs dropped from aircraft, but the widespread planting of mines, and booby traps including in private homes, fields and civilian infrastructure are having a devastating effect on civilians returning to their homes or trying to escape a warzone.

Given the limited local capacity to clear these areas and make them safe again, it will also affect their lives and livelihoods in the long term. MSF calls on the international community to significantly step up their support to international demining organisations to increase their activities in northern Syria.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare.
