Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes is weighing in on Nicki Minaj's controversial support for Donald Trump — and she's offering a surprisingly empathetic take.

In a recent interview, Perry suggested Minaj's decision may have been motivated by something deeper than politics. "It seems that she wanted something from The Office and was trying to maybe help herself, a friend, a boyfriend, whatever. And was promised something and felt that it was worth the risk," Perry said.

She continued: "If my best friend or someone in my family needed something and I had to go begging and groveling to somebody to get it to happen, I probably would've made a bad judgment as well. Sometimes when we're thinking about loved ones or trying to get out of a situation, we're not thinking clearly."
