Top 5 Rush keyboard Solos (Geddy Lee)

Rush has been back in the news recently for reforming with a new drummer. I’m still not sure what to think of this. I tend to be in the camp that it’s better to leave catalog bands in the past to preserve their legacy. With Rush especially, Neil Peart was such an important member that I don’t consider the band to be Rush anymore, just like Led Zeppelin can’t be considered Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. It could be argued that other bands like Van Halen and Kiss should of hung it up after their initial breakup of the original band and I’m sure the majority of fans we are glad that they didn’t but with Rush it feels different to me. I think it would be cooler if Alex and Geddy re-formed with a different band name, that way they can still play and do Rush covers but they aren’t anchored to Rush’s legacy. Just my two cents.

In the late 70’s Geddy was starting to explore keyboards. Even though the keyboards increased in there prevalence in the Mid 80’s I feel that Geddy’s peak keyboard album was Signals. Signals is also my favourite Rush album. For whatever reason the songs on this album have also resonated with me the most. The lyrics to Subdivisions is absolute genius, and Signals like the previous album Moving Pictures struck the perfect balance between Prog and Pop. Countdown can also be considered to be Rush’s only true keyboard solo rather than a lead “part”

70’s Rush up to Moving Pictures has always been considered the band’s golden period without question but as time goes on 80’s Rush is definitely aging better than it was. I personally like 80’s Rush just as much as 70’s Rush, and in a lot of instances I find that 80’s Rush has a lot more replay value.
