● English / Engels / Anglais / Englisch / Inglés:
Munich is located in the land of Bavaria, with a population of 1,526,056 inhabitants.
The transport system consists of buses, trams, Ubahn (metro) and S-bahn (suburban train). The main transport operator is MVG (München Veranstaltungen) and the S-bahn is operated by DB (Deutsche Bahn), the German railway company.
The tram network was inaugurated in 1876, on this occasion it was 150 years since its introduction into circulation. Currently, it has a length of 83.5 kilometers and a number of 13 routes and 3 night lines.
The fleet is modern, although some trams are 30 years old.
The trams types are:
- Type R2, manufactured in the 90s by the company AEG / Adtranz, in a number of 70 trams. At this time, a large part of the trams underwent a series of modernizations in the 2010s. The non-modernized trams ran until 2025, when the last 3 cars were withdrawn from circulation.
-Type R3, manufactured between 1999-2001 by Adtranz. A total of 20 cars were in circulation.
-Type S, Stadler Variobahn, manufactured between 2009-2011 and delivered in 2 batches.
-Type T, Siemens Avenio, manufactured since 2013. These are divided into several subtypes:
1: subtype T1.6, manufactured between 2013–2014, a total of 8 trams. They have a length of 36 meters and are the first Avenio trams in the world.
2. Subtype T2.7, T3.7, T4.7, manufactured in 2017. A total of 22 units were delivered. The T2.7 subtype consists of 2 cars. The next is the T3.7, with 3 cars, followed by the T4.7, with a length of 36 meters. Initially, the T2.7 and T3.7 subtypes ran separately. In 2022, these trams run coupled, with a total number of 5 cars.
3. Subtype T4.8, manufactured between 2021-2026. A total of 73 trams were delivered. They are 36 meters long. They have several differences, unlike the other Siemens Avenio trams.
The Munich subway network was inaugurated in 1971, currently 95 kilometers long.
It is currently served by 8 lines, although 7 lines are in operation, and only 6 main lines on Sundays.
The subway lines are:
U1: Olympia Einkaufszentrum-Mangfallplatz
U2: Feldmoching-Messestadt Ost
U3: Moosach-Fürstenried West
U4: Westendstraße-Arabellapark
U5: Laimer Platz-Neuperlach Süd
U6: Garching-Forschungszentrum-Klinikum Großhadern
U7: Olympia-Einkaufszentrum-Neuperlach Zentrum (Operated Monday-Friday)
U8: Olympiazentrum-Neuperlach Zentrum (Operated only on Saturdays)
The subway fleet is varied, currently running both old and new generation trains.
These are:
-Type A, manufactured between 1967–1983. These trains will be withdrawn in the near future.
-Type B, manufactured between 1981–1994.
These metro types have 2 carriages, running in commercial service simultaneously with 3 trains.
-Type C, manufactured by Siemens between 2002 and 2005-2006.
Type C2, manufactured since 2012. The first trains entered circulation since 2016.
The bus system represents a large part of the public transport routes in Munich, being operated by the company MVG Munich. The bus network is also operated by other operators in the metropolitan area. In the central area, several City-Tour routes, of the HOP-ON/HOP-OFF type, are offered.
The bus fleet is varied, from locally produced Mercedes or Man models to other models from other countries. Some of the buses have an additional carriage, forming a 12-meter bus and a trailer.
Also, between 9 pm and during the night, to get off, you must press the stop button.
Munich has an S-bahn (metropolitan train) network, operated by the German railway company DB (Detsche Bahn), with a number of 8 lines.
