Why Isn't Lefty Stepping Up For Capri Anymore?! | Quaker Parrot Training

Having multiple people work with Lefty really started to mess with the dynamic between Capri and Lefty. Where Lefty would normally come to her without hesitation at any time, he was hesitating, backing away or not wanting as much interaction.

Although Capri found pride in showing him off to people, and was proud of how nice he was going to people... (for the most part!) she also took it as a hit to her own relationship with him and starting not liking him being so easily social. I think it made her feel "less chosen" and less special to him. There was a day she went to spend with my parents at their house, and Charlie and I were able to work alone with Lefty which helped Charlie a lot (Capri's cousin) and Lefty (when it comes to acceptance of the learning curve of others) but when Charlie answered the door holding Lefty, it REALLY hurt Capri to know someone else was hanging out with "her" bird. (She does understand Lefty is not hers but she has been the main person in his life thus far with us.)

Sooooo... it was back to the basics! A training session with the two of them to get them back on track! Training helps you spot when the balance is off, and helps you get it back and maintain that. Keep in mind training is fluid, you need to learn to adjust and adapt as it comes.
