In this tutorial, Tracey Malady takes us through a few of the U-Beaut finishing products and their methods of application.
EEE - Ultra Shine is a cut and polish paste wax containing Tripoli powder (also known in Australia as Rotten Stone) an ultra fine abrasive. The polish is designed to be used in conjunction with Shellawax Cream & liquid or as a finish in its own right on plastics and some stone.

It can also be used by French Polishers after polishing and restorers to cut & polish old polished surfaces.

Many other finishes will also be greatly enhanced by using EEE - Ultra Shine to finish the finish. These include Organ Oil, Danish oil, polyurethane, nitrocellulose lacquer, French polish, spirit varnish, spa vanish, etc.
HELLAWAX is manufactured using our own specially formulated Hard Shellac as a base which gives a hard, durable finish, with resistance to marks and blemishes from water, alcohol and heat.

The hardener in the polish is activated by the heat generated during the application of the Shellawax. As soon as the surface is dry (almost instantly) a cross-linking begins in the finish. It is this cross-linking process which creates the hard surface. It takes around 3 weeks for the entire process to complete. However, in the mean time the work can be handled and used without fear of upsetting the process. Just keep it away from alcohol, water, etc during this time.

TShellawax is a foolproof, one application, friction polish, made for use on the wood lathe. It is (to our knowledge) the fastest and easiest to use polish of its kind on the market today, giving an instant shine to all timbers. It is used with the lathe running and under heat, created through friction, it is fused into the timber. It dries instantly, and can be handled immediately after application. It is water resistant from the start and becomes more resistant to water, alcohol, etc, over a 3 week period after initial application.
Shellawax is a non toxic finish. The ingredients used in Shellawax can be found in food, confectionery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, etc.
These hard sticks of wax are designed solely for the use of woodturners and are made from a special blend of animal, vegetable and mineral waxes including Carnauba (the hardest of all waxes) for a hard bright shine and durability, Ozocerite and Ceresin (high melt waxes) for extra hardness, shine and water resistance, Microcrystalline for added water resistance and durability, and just a hint of beeswax.

The Waxtik is applied directly to the work whilst it is spinning in the lathe, then with the lathe still running the wax is melted on to the work piece through friction. This is done by applying a clean soft rag to the work and moving it slowly across the face of the turned piece.

Use heavy pressure for a satin finish and light pressure for a more lustrous sheen. Second and subsequent coats may be applied if needed.

For a high shine apply a coat of shellac or spirit varnish to the turned piece then immediately apply the Waxtik as described above.

The Waxtik can be applied over our Shellawax and Shellawax Cream friction polishes, and also works extremely well over our EEE-Ultra Shine for a fully waxed finish. Can be used over most oil finishes that respond to a final buffing with hard wax including Organoil. and Danish oil. (Best used on oiled surfaces when the surface is completely dry and no more oil is sweating from the pores of the wood)
FINISHING TIP
You will obtain a much better finish on your work if you sand finely. Start with around 180 grit then go though the grits to 600 girt. eg. 180, 220, 280, 320, 400. 500, 600. For an even more brilliant effect sand up to 1200 grit then use our EEE-Ultra Shine before using the Waxtik
Huon Pine, Oak and Elm, all respond brilliantly to being waxed with Waxtik with no other finish being applied.
Shellawax Glow is darker than regular Shellawax (a deep honey to tan colour). It is made from a special blend of shellacs and is designed to give more depth and richness to highly figured timbers like fiddleback, birdseye, flame and quilted woods. It will also give more richness and a sense of depth to many other timbers.

Dewaxed White Shellac is used the same way as you would use any of the other varieties of shellac. The major difference between this shellac and the others is that it is a bit harder, shines a bit brighter, is completely free from wax and will not change the natural, wet colour of wood.

Because it has been bleached it has a particular characteristic that helps set it apart from most of the others. This polish will not darken the colour of the timber it is applied to any more than putting water on to the timber would. This makes it ideal for use on white-woods where discolouring of the timber is not wanted. It is also brilliant on most other timber colours as it will not hide or darken the grain in the slightest way, but instead will enhance the timbers natural beauty.
