Urticaria Treatment
Urticaria also called hives is a skin reaction that causes itchy welts.
Chronic hives are welts that last for more than six weeks and return often over months or years.
The welts often start as itchy patches that turn into swollen welts that vary in size.
These welts appear and fade at random as the reaction runs its course

Causes
Some food (especially peanuts, eggs, nuts and shellfish)
Medications, such as antibiotics (especially penicillin and sulfa), aspirin and ibuprofen
Insect stings or bites
Physical stimuli, such as pressure, cold, heat, exercise or sun exposure
Latex
Blood transfusions
Bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections and strep throat
Viral infections, including the common cold, infectious mononucleosis and hepatitis
Pet dander
Pollen
Some plants
Symptoms
Raised itchy bumps, either red or skin coloured
“Blanching” (when pressed, the center of a red hive turns white)
URTICARIAL RASHES
Treatment
1 Tab Atarax 25 mg stat & 1 tds (Antihistaminic)

2. Tab Cetzine 10 mg OD (Cetirizine) Or Tab Allegra 180 mg OD (Fexofenadine)

3. Tab Wysolone 5 mg 1 tds x 3-5 days for acute attack (Prednisolone)

4 . Tab Mebex 1 bd x 3 (Broad spectrum anthelmintic)

5 . Tab Calmpose 5 mg HS or 1 bd till
itching is reduced (Tranquiliser)

6. Apply Calamine lotion locally to the rash or Elovera Lotion (AloeVera)

If rash is extensive
1. Inj. Avil 2cc IM/IV stat (Pheniramine)

2. Inj. Efcorlin 100 mg I.V. stat (Hydrocortisone)

3. Inj. Adrenalin 0.5 ml subcut stat if associated anaphylaxis or angioneurotic edema.

If Urticaria is recurrent
1.Inj.Calcium Sandoz with Vit C I.V slow x daily x 3 days (Calcium)

2. Tab Alprax 0.25 mg bd x 15-30 days (Tranquiliser)
3. Ask for WBC Count

If eosinophilia :
Tab Hetrazan 1 tds x 21
Tab Wysolone 1 bd x 10 (Prednisolone)

4. Try to find the causative allergen e.g in foods like fish, drugs like sukha
