Passive vs Active Transport Explained! | How Molecules Cross Cell Membrane 🔥

🧬 Passive & Active Transport Explained!

Cells control the movement of substances across the plasma membrane using different transport mechanisms.

🔬 Passive Transport:
✅ Movement of molecules from high concentration to low concentration
✅ Does not require energy (ATP)
✅ Occurs along the concentration gradient

Types:
• Simple diffusion
• Facilitated diffusion
• Osmosis

🔬 Active Transport:
✅ Movement of molecules from low concentration to high concentration
✅ Requires energy (ATP)
✅ Occurs against the concentration gradient

Types:
• Primary active transport (uses ATP directly)
• Secondary active transport (uses ion gradient)

✨ Examples:
• Oxygen enters cells by diffusion
• Na⁺/K⁺ pump uses ATP for active transport

💡 Quick Trick:
Passive = No ATP + Down the gradient
Active = ATP required + Against gradient
