Sindh Avoids Super Flood but the Threat Isn’t Over Yet | Nukta

Predictions of a super flood in Sindh have been proven incorrect, but the risk of flooding has not vanished.

Former IRSA Chairman Syed Mazhar Ali Shah told Nukta Correspondent Akhtiar Khokhar that NDMA’s forecast of 900,000 to 1.1 million cusecs at Guddu Barrage was wrong, as the flow is now expected to remain between 600,000 and 700,000 cusecs.

He blamed flawed assessments on non-technical staff and pointed to encroachments and breaches in Punjab that slowed the water’s flow.

While the immediate danger has eased, he warned that Sindh’s weak embankments still leave the province vulnerable to flooding.
