How to Colorize a Black and White Photograph Part 1 - Preparing Photoshop for Colorization
Expert colorizer, Mads Madsen, is guiding you through colorizing an old black and white photograph of Abraham Lincoln. This tutorial series will show you how to take an old photograph and color it in a realistic way. There are many different techniques and ways to colorize, but this tutorial will provide you with some basic tips to start you out on your colorization journey. The software used is Photoshop but other photo editing software such as GIMP can also be used to colorize. Mads has taken the time to create a tutorial for beginners using tips and tricks that he has mastered through more than 10 years in the colorization business.
Make sure to pause whenever you need to!
Part 1 of the tutorial will show you the basics of using Photoshop to colorize: opening an image in Photoshop, brush settings, preparing the image for colorization, and layer settings. If you already have a basic knowledge of Photoshop, you might be able to skip this video and go straight onto Part 2. If you skipped this step, the PSD (Photoshop Document) is available on the HistoryColored Website (See link below).
