‘Maybe not for the rest of the year’: Doubts of an interest rate cut in 2024

UNSW Economics Professor Gigi Foster says she doesn’t think interest rates will drop sooner rather than later. 

“I do think with this budget particularly, but even before the budget came down, I was not predicting rates to fall very soon,” Ms Foster told Sky News Australia.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s much really hope that that’s going to happen because there is going to be more money injected into the economy. 

“I don’t expect that the rates are going to come down certainly in the near future and maybe not for the rest of the year.”
